Here is our list of Frequently asked questions

If you have any additional questions or queries, please get in contact with Stefan via the contact link at the bottom right of this page

  • Modern Jive is a popular, easy to learn partner dance style. Due to the smooth and simple footwork, it can be danced to a diverse range of music from old classics to today hits. Modern Jive takes influence from many dance styles including: Jive, Salsa, Tango, West Coast Swing, Ballroom and Rock & Roll.

  • Start at anytime, we do not run block courses and there is no need to pre-book, just turn up and start having fun.

  • While it is always great to bring someone along with you, partners are not essential. Our classes are rotational, so that you get to dance with dancers of all levels.

Rotating around the class allows you to learn faster and make new friends. If you have a partner and do not want to rotate, please contact us to discuss how we can accommodate you.

  • In our classes we rotate partners

We recommend rotating partners within the class as this allows you to learn faster by dancing with more experienced dancers and make new friends.

If you and your partner would prefer not to rotate rotate within the class, please let our door team know when you check-in. They will then let the instructor know so that we can accommodate you :)

  • We do not run block courses, meaning that you can start Modern Jive at anytime.

If you aren’t able to attend every week then that is perfectly fine :)

Our trip Passes are valid for 6 months from purchase date meaning that you don’t need to use them consecutively

  • Clothes that you are comfortable dancing in, appropriate shoes that have non grip smooth soles, a water bottle to keep hydrated and your mobile phone to record our video demonstration of the class moves (optional - after class)

  • Leads

A comfortable lace up shoe that you can move around easily in.

In the future you may want to put leather/suede on the bottom of your footwear to move more easily.

    Follows

A comfortable shoe that gives you good support in your heel/ankle.

Options include a closed shoe/open sandal/or with a heel (harder to balance).

You will want your shoe to allow you to easily pivot/spin when you are turning.

  • Our beginners revision is for dancers who want to go through the technique that they learned in class to further develop their dancing foundations. This is held straight after our beginners class. Bring your mobile phone to record our video demonstration of the class moves

  • After class we play music and have freestyle dancing, this is a great time to be social, dance with your fellow dancers and practice your new dance moves that you have just learnt.

  • We welcome a wide range of ages from 16 upwards

  • In a class we begin with a brief warm up. We will then teach you the basics of Modern Jive, these include how to either lead or follow.

We teach 2 moves during a class as well as how to join them together.

  • In this class we build on the foundations of our beginner class, to improve your technique as well as provide variations to the beginner moves. You need to attend beginner classes first to make sure that you have the correct dancing foundations to progress. You will need to have a dance with a teacher to progress.
