Changing of roles in class (Lead & Follows)

Please remember that while we do encourage both leads and follows to swap roles during our classes to improve your dancing, not everyone is comfortable with this

For freestyle in both Motueka & Nelson we fully encourage people to swap roles and have fun :)

For our 2021 Nelson classes until further notice:

  • There will be no switching of roles (from the original role you started learning) unless the instructor has asked someone to swap roles to help balance the class. This is for both genders.

Motueka Classes

  • Dancers will only be able to change roles from their original role once they have been at an intermediate level for at least one year.

  • Dancers will need to make the instructor aware if they plan to change roles before the class starts - this allows the instructor to arrange the class effectively and include everyone.

If you have swapped roles in class:

  • When you meet a new/existing dancer that you have not danced with before, please make sure you ask: "are you ok dancing with me, or would you like to watch the class until we next rotate"

  • Please be aware of the rest of the class, If you see someone spare who cannot change roles, you should switch roles back automatically.

  • If a dancer asks to partner with you in the class, switch back roles politely, do not reject them.

  • You may need to return to your original role if the instructor needs to balance the class to allow people who can't swap roles to dance.

Please talk to Stefan if you have any questions or queries
